Worker Organizer, Fair Workweek LA
Mercy Solorzano graduated from California State University, Long Beach in May 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a minor in Communications where she also potentialized her passion for equity and social justice. Prior to joining LAANE, Mercy worked first hand in the retail industry experiencing first hand the need for dignity and respect in the workplace. She also worked in a workers compensation law firm where she also witnessed the intimidation tactics employers used to derail workers, especially immigrant workers, from reporting work related incidents.
As a daughter of immigrant parents, Mercy knew being a part of organized labor and civic engagement would be part of her life. Mercy came into contact with LAANE through an internship program with CSULB. For the past year she worked on the Long Beach campaign as an intern doing community organizing and as a program and research specialist that directly identified needs and created workshop training around the needs that also helped involve the community in Long Beach. In her free time, Mercy enjoys practicing and mastering Mixed Martial Arts, collecting vinyl, and singing. She also enjoys attending art shows and museums.
