Estuardo David Mazariegos is a committed organizer with 12 years of experience working on community and labor campaigns. Estuardo immigrated from Guatemala in 1988 and gained his political education on the streets of Los Angeles. In 1992, Estuardo witnessed the LA rebellion which forever influenced his view of race and justice in this country. Estuardo started his organizing career with the Association of Communities Organized for Reform Now (ACORN) and was one of the founding organizers of the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE). During Estuardo’s 10 year community organizing career, he developed neighborhood-based campaigns in Long Beach, South Los Angeles, and Sacramento. Estuardo has been part of establishing two community land trusts in South Central Los Angeles, first as an organizer with Trust South Los Angeles and currently as a board member for Liberty Community Land Trust. Pre-Covid 19 Estuardo was the statewide external organizer with SEIU-USWW where he worked to unionize non-union janitors throughout California. Community leadership, community-lead development, popular education and community ownership is important to Estuardo, and he looks forward to implementing this model of community change with LAANE.
