Campaign Description: LAANE is currently seeking a full-time Research and Policy Analyst for our RePower LA campaign. Since 2011, we have won programs and policies at LADWP to ensure that our utility’s investment in updating infrastructure and clean energy leads to the creation of good union jobs and that low-income communities of color benefit from energy efficiency programs that save money on utility bills.
Position Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Campaign Director, the Research and Policy Analyst will contribute to campaign goals through research into varied areas related to equity and green jobs at LADWP, potentially including: public employment and the civil service process; technological aspects of water and power delivery; creating new pathways to employment for low-income communities of color. The Policy Analyst will create research memos, reports, and fact sheets that inform campaign strategy, using a combination of government and union data sources, interviews, and public documents. They will represent RePower LA at various coalitions. The Policy Analyst will connect policy research work with RePower LA’s organizing and communications staff. Reliable transportation is required.
- Experience and desire to work in advocacy/campaign based research settings: Candidate should have 2-5+ years experience in community or labor campaign research and/or a graduate degree in public policy, urban planning, or a related field. Also, strong written communication skills, report writing, familiarity with Westlaw (or similar) and Excel, and quantitative analysis skills. Comfort and flexibility with working on several research projects simultaneously. Willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary.
- Familiarity with climate investment initiatives and clean/renewable energy.
- Social justice: A strong commitment to racial and economic justice.
- Working as a leader within a team: Ability to work independently and collectively within a team, possession of strong interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence.
Terms of employment: LAANE’s salary and benefit standards are competitive, with a salary range of $48,000-60,000, depending on experience. Full family health benefits, 401(k), generous time off, TAP card pass, and parking. Friendly, team-oriented working environment.
