Nancy L. Cohen is the CEO and founder of Gender Equity Policy Institute (GEPI), a California-based nonprofit that makes better policy by providing gender impact analysis on every issue. A historian and leading national expert on gender politics in the United States, Cohen is the author of several books, including Delirium: The Politics of Sex in America and The Reconstruction of American Liberalism, 1865-1914. Her commentary has been published in a wide range of outlets, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Guardian, and USA Today. She has appeared on NBC, NPR, and other media outlets, and her work has been featured in The Atlantic, Sacramento Bee, and elsewhere.
Prior to founding GEPI, Cohen held research and teaching positions at the University of California, Los Angeles, Occidental College, California State University, Long Beach, and other universities. Over the past two decades, she has served as a consultant to elected officials, government agencies, and some of the nation’s leading labor, environmental, and feminist organizations. She began her career as a public high school teacher and UFT member in New York City.
