Celebrating a Decade of Building
a Better Los Angeles
On
September 12, 2003, LAANE celebrated its tenth anniversary
with the City of Justice Awards Dinner. The dinner was
held at the Biltmore Hotel, and honored leaders in the

More

musical performance by legendary Doors drummer John
Densmore, a keynote speech by noted journalist Harold
Meyerson, editor of the American Prospect and columnist
for the Washington Post, and appearances by Los Angeles
City Councilmembers Antonio Villaraigosa and Martin
Ludlow. Among the honorees were Santa Monica hotel workers
and Los Angeles nursing home workers, who were recognized
for their courage and tenacity in campaigns that exemplified
the growing movement for economic justice in Southern
California. Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti,
SEIU Local 1877 President Mike Garcia and former Kaiser
Permanente Government and Community Relations Director
Leland Wong were also honored.
