Community Organizer for Don’t Waste LA

LAANE is currently seeking a full-time experienced Community Organizer to help develop and execute an ambitious community organizing plan as part of sweeping project to overhaul the regional waste and recycling industry.

The Waste & Recycling Project is developing a collection and processing model for the commercial waste and recycling industries in the LA region that ensures good job standards, protects the health and safety of communities, and contributes to a more sustainable environment. Sanitation workers, from haulers to sorters to recyclers, deal with dangerous materials and job conditions; communities struggle to coexist with waste processing facilities and multiple collection vehicles in their streets; and the landfill disposal system is a major greenhouse gas contributor requiring costly and long-term maintenance. A model policy would move us closer to a “zero waste” society, while creating good, green jobs, more stringent community protections and increased environmental stewardship. For more information, see www.dontwastela.org and www.dontwastelongbeach.org.
